Learn English in Ireland
Dublin in Ireland is becoming an increasingly popular destination for learning English abroad. The so-called `Emerald Isle` is world renowned for its gently rolling hills, green plains and forests, its many small lakes and the breath taking rocky coastline. There is something here for both nature lovers and those who enjoy culture. Giant's Causeway or the impressive old town of Dublin, the home of the world famous Irish writer Oscar Wilde, are just two of the many culturally interesting places that you can visit on your language study trip. Dublin has a large number of cultural monuments to visit and a great deal more to offer to language course participants, perhaps offering more than the cultural city of Cork and the university town of Galway.
Studying English in Ireland has one more important advantage over language courses in England - they are a lot cheaper. The open, uncomplicated and friendly nature of the Irish people makes a trip to this country a unique experience. During your visit to our quality language school in Ireland, our expertise will allow you to achieve your main goal which is to learn English.
We hope we have convinced you that learning English in this beautiful country of rugby, football, Guinness and pop music, to learn a foreign language, is very attractive.
Our School Location
You can find our language school in the centre of Dublin: Ireland`s capital city of Dublin has an international airport which is located about 12 km north of the city centre. Dublin Airport is used by many airlines (such as: KLM, British Airways, BMI) and has direct flights from all over the world. In particular, the Irish airline "Aer Lingus" often provides cheap flights to the capital. Furthermore Ryan Air flies to Dublin from various airports.
When you arrive in Dublin, it is best to get to your accommodation by taxi. We are happy to organise a taxi transfer for you, however it is a little cheaper to take a taxi from the airport yourself. You can also use several public bus companies, such as Air Coach. They provide direct links between Dublin airport and the centre. We will be happy to help you in case of any questions!
For long term courses, you can purchase a Travel Card at a reduced price on the first day of your course.
Our international language school in Dublin was founded in 1977 and is one of the earliest established schools in the city. The school is accredited by the Irish Ministry of Education as a school for the teaching of English as a foreign language and is open all year round.
The school is housed in Ireland's capital city in an elegant Georgian building on Lower Leeson Street near St. Stephen's Green. The main shopping street (Grafton Street), the National Art Gallery, Trinity College, the National Library and other museums are within a few minutes' walking distance.
At the school, there are computers available for your use. You can also borrow books and audio-visual materials from the well-equipped school. To enrich your language learning with insights into Irish culture and traditions, the school organizes a variety of excursions and activities, e.g. a visit to a whiskey distillery or a tour of Trinity College, the most prestigious university in the country!
Our school in Dublin places great emphasis on the quality of teaching - a qualified team of teachers will help you learn English in a warm, but professional atmosphere. The team is ready to help you not only with course-related questions, but with other advice to make the most of your stay!
Our partner language school in Dublin is the only school in Dublin to have accreditation from `Quality English` (an association of excellent family-run English language schools). The `Quality English` association only accepts independent, highly reputable English language schools and regularly checks the satisfaction of the participants. The association regularly visits the schools and checks the feedback from agents and corporate clients to make sure the standards are always kept high.
Our language school in Dublin is accredited by the Ministry of Education and Science in Ireland through ACELS (Advisory Council for English Language Schools) as a language school for the teaching of English as a foreign language. ACELS has existed since 1969 and is part of the Ministry with the task of monitoring the standards of English language schools and ensuring quality.
The school is a member of the Association of MEI-RELSA (Marketing English in Ireland - Recognised English Language School Association). RELSA was founded in 1969 as a trade association for language schools in Ireland. MEI was introduced in 1993 as a marketing cooperative for English language schools. After the merger of the two separate organisations to MEI RELSA, the association represents a large number of high-quality English language schools in Ireland. One of the main functions of the association is to maintain the quality and standards of the schools.
"The staff and teachers were all extremely friendly and helpful and tried to solve every problem as quickly as possible. The students were actually all in the course, which corresponded to their English level, the teaching itself was very varied, exciting and really educational. Also the school activities were very well organized and exciting."
"My stay in Dublin and at the language school was really good. My host family was very friendly to me. Everything was great: the house, my own room, the food. The language lessons as well as the teachers and staff at school were excellent. I would come back again!"
"I liked the accommodation at my host family. They were super nice and told me a lot about Ireland and their language. They have always prepared delicious food for me. The language school was well equipped and organized. The teacher were quite patient with us and helped with occuring questions. I was able to learn a lot within two weeks and improved my English immense. Therefore I want to thank everyone!"
"Hello. My name is Manfred and I'm very satisfied with the language school and the lessons there. Everyone was quite young in my class - I was the oldest one. But anyways, ther atmosphere was good and we could communicate very well with each other. Everything went very well. The accommodation was also very great! Therefore I want to thank Mrs Marray."
"The staff at Sprachdirekt is really competent. They realised my wishes immediately. I'm very satisfied. Very friendly people at the language school. The teachers are so competent and helpful. It was great. The family was super friendly and the food was also great. And it took me only 20 minutes by bus to school."
"I was very satisfied. I was supported very friendly - everything was great! The school building seemed to be in a good condition. There were enough computers, so that you could use the internet during break. I also participated in the activity program and I enjoyed it. The teachers are friendly and very competent. I've learnt a lot furing those two weeks. I met many lovely people. Especially the discussions in class about topics such as rescuing the earth (climate change, nuclear power) or reforming the health system were quite interesting. The accommodation itself was ok, too. However, the nights weren't that quiet because of the thin walls. Well, it's a hostel. But I got new towels and sheets every three days and that's really great for a hostel."
"The organization and support of Sprachdirekt was great and the staff very friendly and helpful. My host family (Mrs Manley) was awesome. I got welcomed in the family really nice, it couldn't have been better. The house was beautiful and very clean and my room was arranged lovingly. It took me only 15 min to walk to school, although the documents said it'll take around 35 min by bus."
"My experiences with Sprachdirekt were really good. I stayed at a host family in Dublin who were very nice and open-minded. I could talk about everything with them. I learned a lot about the Irish way of life, too. Moreover in class everything went very well: the teachers explained the topics very well and I could improve my English skills a lot. Also you have to talk in English all the time, even outside school. Therefore I lost my anxiety for the English language."
"The thing I liked the most was the teaching method of the teachers who hold the lessons in a very professional way and funny at the same time. It was a mixture of both. So it never got boring and learning English was fun. I improved my English skills very fast. The school staff was also very helpful. They allowed me to print out my boarding pass and I'm very thankful for that."

To make your language course in Ireland a great success, choosing the right accommodation is just as crucial as choosing your language course! Our language school in Dublin offers a variety of different types of accommodation and there's sure to be the perfect accommodation for you here.
Staying with a host family is a very popular option among our students. Here you have the opportunity to apply what you learn in school immediately and gain insight into the everyday life of a Dublin family. If you place more value on your independence, then a hostel is a suitable option for you. All year round school offers two different city centre student residences. In the summer months, staying in shared apartments at a university college is also possible. Here you can choose from a single room with shared bathroom or single room with private bathroom.
If you want even more independence, we can of course arrange accommodation in nearby guest houses and hotels for you.
Shared apartments or residence halls with self-catering are very popular with our students. These are fairly typical of their sort, where you stay in a single room and the kitchen, bathroom and common room is shared with the other residents. Generally, each apartment has 3-6 bedrooms and bed linen is provided. They are all located between 15 and 25 minutes walk from school.
Accommodation in a shared apartment in Ireland is ideal if you want to be independent but also to have the chance to make contact with students of a similar age!
* Only available during summer months from June to August.
Host family accommodation is very popular with our students. All our host families are carefully selected and regularly visited by the school. You are treated like a member of the family in the host families and have the opportunity to take part in the daily life of the family and to gain valuable insight into Irish culture and the way of life. The host family provides you with a single room.
Our host families live in the best residential areas of Dublin: Stillorgan, Kilmacud, Mount Merrion, Dundrum, Rathfarnham, Foxrock and Leopardstown. All the homestay accommodation is situated close to a direct bus route which will take you to the school and city centre without changing bus. You can buy special student tickets for the buses in the school (for long term stays). In the rush hour it takes a maximum of about 40 minutes to get to the school.
When you book your homestay in Ireland you can choose between bed and breakfast*, half board or full board accommodation. Please inform us in advance about any dietary requirements, e.g. vegan, lactose or gluten intolerance. The school charges a weekly supplement.
* This option is not available in July and August.
The hostel Avalon House is located in the heart of Ireland's capital city, Dublin and is fully equipped with modern facilities. This accommodation is available throughout the year. We recommend the hostel for students up to the age of about 25. Some of the single and double rooms have a private bathroom. The double rooms are not equipped with a double bed but have two single beds. The students share a kitchen and the lounge area. Breakfast is provided.
