Our language school in New York, USA is located in the heart of the city, in the world-renowned district of Manhattan, on Fifth Avenue. Being just one block away from Broadway and a stone’s throw away from the famous Macy’s shopping centre and the New York Public Library, the language school boasts an exciting location in which to learn English. The imposing Empire State Building, one of New York’s many famous landmarks, is situated directly across the street. Students can expect a unique setting, a location characterised by its incredible diversity and which promises impressive cultural sights and something fun to suit all interests.

The language centre is located in a restored Art Deco building and has been modernised with the latest equipment and teaching aids. Interactive whiteboards make learning easy and effective. All of the classrooms are bright and spacious and are just the right size for each class. The school has seventeen classrooms, two computer rooms with Internet access and Wi-Fi in all rooms. There is also a lobby where students are welcomed, can get information and can book the leisure activities on offer. Two lounges are a central gathering spot for students and teachers to congregate between lessons. Students also have access to a study centre and a library for additional research needs and study time.
The school in New York also has a centre exclusively for our executive clients furnished with flat-screen TV, daily newspapers and magazines, Wi-Fi and Skype, snacks, as well as a computer, printer, photocopier, telephone and fax machine.
The central location of the school in New York makes it easily accessible by public transport. Most subways and busses have stops just minutes away from the school. Our language school in New York offers a comprehensive programme of English language courses to suit all participants’ needs – whatever their individual goals. Our group courses allow you to improve and develop your general English skills.
English language courses at our New York school are based on the four pillars of foreign language learning: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Grammar and vocabulary are always taught in context, so that the theory can easily be applied in "real-life" scenarios. Lessons are interesting, interactive and fun so participants are especially motivated to constantly push themselves in their language learning. Course materials cover a wide range of various topics and videos, CDs, the Internet, and newspaper clippings all provide access to authentic, up-to-date English in context. Group courses have no more than twelve students in a class however on average groups of 8 – 10 participants are more common. Each lesson lasts fifty minutes.
On your first day you'll be given a placement test to assess your written and oral skills in English and help place you into the appropriate course level. This assessment allows the language instruction to be as homogeneous as possible and ensures that the participants in the English courses are neither under nor over challenged. The placement test in New York, the course materials (there is a deposit for the course book) and a certificate upon completion of the course are included in the course price. The language school in New York offers English courses for adults and therefore only accepts participants aged 16 years and older.

When studying in the States, a very popular option is a host family. If you choose to live with a host family, you will get to apply and enrich your newly-acquired English skills in everyday life. Not only will you learn the English language, you'll also have the chance to live the American way of life and immerse yourself in every aspect of American culture. Our host families are committed to helping their guests both with language tips and tricks on making the most of New York City.
Residences are another option for accommodation in New York City. In this type of accommodation, you'll be independent and have the opportunity to make friends with classmates from all over the world. And, of course, if you’d prefer the highest possible standard of accommodation, we can also help you find a suitable hotel in New York.

Long-term students who prefer to have their own space will appreciate the private apartments in New York. Studio apartments with one or two rooms are available for language students age 18 or older. They can be reserved for a minimum duration of 4 weeks.
Apartments are located in downtown Manhattan or in the city perimeter and are offered for language students’ exclusive use. Apartments in Manhattan are 15-20 minutes away from the language school; from the city perimeter, it takes about 45 minutes to get to the language school.
Apartments are self-catered and are available as either a studio or with a separate bedroom. A fully furnished kitchen can be used for cooking, with apartment service and breakfast being included in the price. A TV and free Wi-Fi access are available as well. You can hire a local cleaner to keep your apartment tidy. In the apartment building’s business centre, e-mails can be sent and documents printed. The house contains a gym and washing machines can be accessed in the apartment building’s own self-service laundry. Bed linen and towels are provided.
Upon arrival, a deposit of $300 is required, payable at the language school.
One of the most popular types of accommodation in the USA is the host family. The family that you are placed in can consist of mother, father and children, but it may also be a childless couple or a single person. You can practise newly acquired knowledge every day by using the English language to communicate with your host family. This will allow you to consolidate and expand your skills.
Accommodation can be arranged in single and double rooms. Please note that double rooms can only be reserved if both participants arrive at the same time. Breakfast is included in the price. Half-board (breakfast and dinner) can be booked for a small surcharge.
Students share a bathroom, kitchen and living room with the family. Bed linen and towels are provided.
New York City has an excellent public transport system which allows students to travel effortlessly from their host families to the language school. Most host families are located in Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Bronx, Long Island, Westchester and New Jersey. It takes between 30 and 45 minutes to reach the school via public transport. Host family accommodation in Manhattan or Roosevelt Island is also possible for a surcharge. Please note that there are two types of family accommodation: those north and south of 115th Avenue. In host families south of 115th Avenue, you can only book accommodation with breakfast.
Host family accommodation is provided to language students from Sunday evening before the start of their course until the Sunday after the end of the programme.
This perfectly located standard residence is just a 10-minute walk from the language school, which allows you to take a stroll through Times Square, Broadway, Madison Square Garden or the famous Macy’s shopping mall after class. You can book single, self-catered rooms in this residence. Twin rooms (with two single beds) can be arranged on request in special cases. Rooms are fully furnished and have their own bathrooms. TVs, internet (please bring an Ethernet cable) and refrigerators are available in the rooms.
The residence contains common rooms, comfortable kitchens (kitchen utensils are usually there because previous language students left them there), lounge rooms, a washing room, computer rooms and sports facilities. Bed linen is provided, but language students must bring their own towels. Residents are responsible for cleaning their rooms; cleaning products can be purchased locally. Please note that smoking is banned in the residence. Upon arrival, a deposit of $150 is payable and will be returned, in full, when you depart, on the condition that there is no damage to the accommodation. Arrival and departure is on Sundays. Our international students have been very impressed by the recently renovated superior residence. Thanks to its excellent location on 3rd Avenue in Yorkville, a quiet district of Manhattan, it is surrounded by diverse restaurants, world-famous museums (such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum), cosy cafés and a multitude of shopping venues. Central Park is just a stone’s throw away from the residence. Public transport will take you to the language school in about 20 minutes. Single and double rooms have their own bathroom in this type of accommodation. A small kitchen is available in all single rooms. Additionally, each floor has a communal kitchen for residents with a double room. The rooms have free internet access, cable TV, telephones, refrigerators and air conditioning. Staff at the modern reception of the superior residence are available to guests 24 hours per day. A security service ensures that students are safe both day and night. Language students can meet other residents in the comfortable lounge rooms and swap stories or hints. The computer and study rooms are perfectly suited for homework or course preparation. Games, movies and a gym are available for your free time, and washing machines can be accessed in the residence’s own laundry. Bed linen and towels are provided. Arrival and departure should be arranged for Sundays.
New York City is renowned for its countless attractions and the fact that there is always plenty going on and our New York language school is no different to the rest of the city, offering students a wide-ranging and sociable activity programme. The programme allows participants to get the most out of their stay in the ‘Big Apple’.
The activity programme is extremely varied and is different every month. Students get a daily activity suggestion and excursions are scheduled two or three times a week, where students are accompanied by teachers or members of staff from the language school. The activities on offer depend on the season especially for sports events, like baseball or basketball, or excursions typically offered in summer (e.g. a picnic in Central Park). Other activities explore areas such as music, film, culture, history or the beautiful sights of the city. At the weekends, trips to the Statue of Liberty, the Hamptons, Washington D.C., Boston or the Niagara Falls are also offered. Shopping trips to the nearby outlet centre are popular as well.
