You can choose between two different exam courses at our school in Cape Town: IELTS and Cambridge ESOL exam preparation.
If you need formal verification of your English skills through a recognised English language test, the IELTS course in South Africa is the right option for you. This 4 or 8-week intensive course has been specially designed so that the participants can achieve the best possible results in the test. This course is available as a combined course with 30 lessons of 45 minutes each. This combination consists of a Standard English course which consists of 20 lessons, plus 10 lessons of IELTS exam preparation. Please note that the IELTS course is only available to those who already have a minimum of an Intermediate level of English.
The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) qualification is required by most British, Australian, Canadian, Maltese, South African and some American universities. This certificate is also necessary in order to immigrate to Canada and Australia.
The second exam, Cambridge ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), is recognised by employers and universities around the world. There are three different Cambridge ESOL tests: FCE (First Certificate of English), CAE (Certificate in Advanced English) and CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English). These courses consist of 30 lessons per week, and each lesson is 45 minutes. Please note that these courses are only available for 9, 11 or 12 weeks.
On these exam preparation courses you will receive constant feedback on your strengths and possible weaknesses from your teachers while looking at all areas related to the examinations. The courses focus on the four skill areas of the test which are: reading, writing, listening and speaking. The maximum group size is 12 participants. The courses are open to students aged 16 and over.
